Summary: (from NCBI-Entrez) ..[read more]The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the family of integrins. Integrins are heterodimeric integral membrane proteins composed of an alpha chain and a beta chain, and function as cell surface adhesion molecules. This gene encodes alpha 3 subunit, wh
Dulabon L, et al. (Neuron. 2000) found that reelin binds alpha3beta1 integrin and inhibits neuronal migration. Absence of alpha3beta1 leads to a reduction of Dab1, a signaling protein acting downstream of Reelin.
Form and function: the laminin family of heterotrimers. Laminin-2 is composed of the three subunits alpha-2, beta-1 and gamma-1 (Colognato & Yurchenco 2000).
Form and function: the laminin family of heterotrimers. Laminin-5 is composed of the three subunits alpha-3A, beta-3 and gamma-2 (Colognato & Yurchenco 2000).
Form and function: the laminin family of heterotrimers. Laminin-10 is composed of the three subunits alpha-5, beta-1 and gamma-1 (Colognato & Yurchenco 2000).
The laminin complex alph-5-beta-1-gamma-1 is also called laminin-10 and is the most specific ligand to integrin alpha-3-beta-1. The tetraspan CD-151 is a coreceptor tho this integrin composit receptor (Nishiuchi et al. 2005). CD151, one of the tetraspanins, forms a stable complex with integrin alpha-3-beta-1, the major laminin receptor on the cell surface. Antibody-induced dissociation of CD151 from integrin alpha-3-beta-1 was accompanied by a concomitant reduction in the cell adhesion to laminin-10/11-coated substrates (Nishiuchi et al. 2005).
