Summary: (from NCBI-Entrez) ..[read more]The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the receptor tyrosine kinase subfamily. Although it is similar to other receptor tyrosine kinases, this protein represents a unique structure of the extracellular region that juxtaposes IgL and FNIII repeats
Varnum BC, et al. (Nature. 1995) firstly reported that growth-arrest-specific gene 6 is a ligand for the Axl family of receptors. Nagata K, et al. (J Biol Chem. 1996) later found that Gas6 is a common ligand for Axl, Sky, and Mer, all known members of an Axl/Sky receptor subfamily.
Stitt TN, et al. (Cell, 1995)reported that the anticoagulation factor protein S and its relative, Gas6, are ligands for the Tyro 3/Axl family of receptor tyrosine kinases.
