Interleukin-12 is a heterodimeric cytokine that is composed of a disulfide-bonded 40-kDa subunit (IL-12B) and a 35-kDa subunit (IL-12A). IL-12R beta 1 is the subunit primarily responsible for binding IL-12, whereas IL-12R beta 2 plays an essential role in mediating the biological functions of IL-12 (Wu et al. 2000).
