Summary: (from NCBI-Entrez) ..[read more]The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the transmembrane 4 superfamily, also known as the tetraspanin family. Most of these members are cell-surface proteins that are characterized by the presence of four hydrophobic domains. The proteins mediate
Form and function: the laminin family of heterotrimers. Laminin-10 is composed of the three subunits alpha-5, beta-1 and gamma-1 (Colognato & Yurchenco 2000).
The laminin complex alph-5-beta-1-gamma-1 is also called laminin-10 and is the most specific ligand to integrin alpha-3-beta-1. The tetraspan CD-151 is a coreceptor tho this integrin composit receptor (Nishiuchi et al. 2005). CD151, one of the tetraspanins, forms a stable complex with integrin alpha-3-beta-1, the major laminin receptor on the cell surface. Antibody-induced dissociation of CD151 from integrin alpha-3-beta-1 was accompanied by a concomitant reduction in the cell adhesion to laminin-10/11-coated substrates (Nishiuchi et al. 2005).
Form and function: the laminin family of heterotrimers. Laminin-11 is composed of the three subunits alpha-5, beta-2 and gamma-1 (Colognato & Yurchenco 2000).
The laminin complex alph-5-beta-2-gamma-1 is also called laminin-11 and is the most specific ligand to integrin alpha3-beta-1. The tetraspan CD-151 is a coreceptor tho this integrin composit receptor (Nishiuchi et al. 2005).
